These parents were eager to give their children their own sanctuaries that reflected their
personalities. This meant working with each of their favourite colours and also
taking into account their hobbies.
A peachy pink palette was selected by their 13-year-old daughter and I wanted to make it look
sweet and elegant, without being a nod to Barbie. Custom-made wall panels give clean lines and
add texture, whilst LED lights provide utilitarian function and create a focal point that
brakes up the symmetry of the vertical lines. A desk was built to create an area to study and
sew. Next, we added a mirror with shelves that provided a functional display space whilst also creating the illusion of a larger room. The headboard was ordered and the bedside light and table tie into the colour scheme and give extra storage.
Next up was a room for their 11-year-old daughter, who is passionate about purple. The fluted textural walls
tie into her sister’s design creating flow and consistency from room to room. The LED detail
gives a bit of extra light and breaks up the sleek lines. The custom lavender velvet headboard
was custom-made just for her and a Kartell Componibili completed the look.
Finally, their 12-year-old son wanted a space where he could study and also have some room
for fun when his mates were over. I created a study nook under his bed with a desk and chair
where he can hit the books in comfort and style. The custom-made bed allows him to climb in for a
snooze with ease, and the linens with foxes add a bit of whimsy. The walls reflect the same lines
as the other bedrooms but in a blue hue. Finally, an outdoor mural adds a dash of masculinity
and can be easily swapped out for another image should he want an update down the line as
he grows.
