This lovely home in East Tamaki had lots of potential, but also had some challenges in terms of design and construction due to a curious number of odd angles that I needed to work around. Never daunted by a challenge, I engaged some of my best contractors and came up with creative solutions for installation. I was tasked with updating both the kitchen and sitting room with a light, bright refresh for the new owners. The original kitchen was boldly coloured with an impractical layout that did not complement the simple architectural feel of the property. Mindful of the budget, I decided on sleek white lacquered cupboards with good quality hardware and timber that was pre-fabricated and not custom made. The floors were made of interlocking, cost-effective tongue and groove planks. The engineered bench top was made of a gorgeous coresite-mixed man-made material that gives a look of natural stone. In the living area is a custom-made yellow ottoman and cushions that match beautifully with the owner’s existing sofa. I chose light paint colours with accents of mustard to pull everything together. The greens and blues in the sitting room tie back to the kitchen for a seamless flow from space to space.
