St. Heliers, Auckland

You would be hard-pressed to find better views than what you will see from this flat by the sea.    Mt. Rangitoto, glistening water and gentle waves rolling make you certain that Mother Nature was just showing off.  Located in the charming village of St. Heliers atop a cool café is this sleek and modern apartment.  Referred by another of my clients, this couple was a dream to work with.  These retirees have a serious case of wanderlust and are constantly on the go dashing from one international destination to another.  They wanted a space they could enjoy while they are in town but also a place they can lock and leave on a whim.

The apartment is, modern with clean lines.  The total white palette gave me a blank slate to work from and it was screaming for some personality.  The owners were at a bit of a loss as to where to begin to make this place their own, so we brainstormed and came up with the perfect idea of bringing the outdoors in.  The blues of the ocean and the sky became my inspiration and I wanted to create a natural flow from the stunning views to the interior space.

To compliment the chic feel of the space white sofas and a coffee table were selected to match the clean, contemporary kitchen. By using this monochromatic palette with pops of intense colour, we encourage seamless movement from one room to another. .   The striking extended ottoman, in an ombre velvet, brings rich texture while drawing the eye to the simple tailored draperies that frame the view.  The bright and bold blue rug make you feel like you are walking on water and add necessary warmth both visually and textually..  Pillows were selected in complimentary colours and patterns integrating the various blues and whites while softening the linear feel.  I then interspersed the couple’s existing artwork and added a few accessories  to complete this polished look.
