Bringing a bungalow into the future
This sweet bungalow in Epsom had some serious space challenges that needed to be addressed to bring it into 2020. Originally, the kitchen was a closed off space that lacked balance. In addition, there was a laundry located close by that led to clutter and noise, not ideal for a serene place to cook and dine. We removed the laundry and the fireplace then added windows which totally opened up the area making it light, bright, airy and modern. I selected a feature stone for the island and white matt acrylic cupboards. The blue tile created a little drama and it was installed with surgical precision to create flawless white lines that tie in the cupboards and create a sleek aesthetic. A large pantry was built for storage and convenience and a beautiful marquee, dark plank floor was laid, that will provide durability over time. Three pendant lamps with globes and brass fittings give the viewer the illusion that they are floating in mid-air. The wine fridge was a welcome addition as the owners love to entertain. The large island makes an ideal spot for guests to gather to chat and enjoy hors dóeuvres in a comfortable, casual, but polished space.
